Education & Leadership
Cultivating Clinical Excellence & Professional Vision
The future of Mississippi’s healthcare depends on the strength of its first responders. At the Mississippi Center for Advancement of Prehospital Medicine (MSCAPM), we are dedicated to professionalizing the industry through rigorous education and forward-thinking leadership development. From the classroom to the command staff, we provide the resources, grants, and training pathways necessary to elevate the standard of care across the state.
Defining the Standard of Care
In emergency medicine, the gap between "minimum competency" and "clinical excellence" can be the difference between life and death. At MSCAPM, we are committed to closing that gap. We believe that a patient’s location should not dictate the quality of care they receive. Whether in the Delta or the Pine Belt, every Mississippian deserves a provider trained to the highest modern standards.
To achieve this, we partner with community colleges and training sites to deliver advanced curriculum beyond the basics. By prioritizing National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) courses—such as Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)—we ensure our workforce is not just certified, but truly prepared. We focus on evidence-based medicine, moving our state’s EMS culture from simple transport to advanced mobile healthcare.
From Field Provider to Executive Leader
The most common gap in the EMS industry is the lack of formal leadership training. Too often, excellent clinicians are promoted into management roles without the tools to succeed. MSCAPM is changing this narrative by treating EMS management as a distinct professional discipline.
Our leadership initiatives are built on the Seven Pillars of National EMS Officer Competencies. We move beyond basic administration to teach true executive skills, including human resource management, strategic planning, and social responsibility. We are mentoring the next generation of Chiefs, Directors, and Supervisors who will not only manage their agencies but advocate for the profession. By investing in these "soft skills," we create healthier work environments and more stable agencies across the state.
Building a Resilient Healthcare System
Clinical Mastery
Elevating provider competency through evidence-based medicine and advanced NAEMT certifications.

Transforming field clinicians into executive leaders capable of managing sustainable, healthy agencies.
Accessible Pathways
Dismantling financial and geographic barriers to ensure every responder has access to elite education.
Breaking Down Barriers to Education
Cost and geography have historically been the two biggest obstacles to EMS advancement in our state. We are actively dismantling both. Through strategic grant funding and state partnerships, MSCAPM works to subsidize training costs, often making courses available at little to no cost for eligible providers.
We also understand that rural agencies cannot always afford to send staff away for weeks of training. That is why we champion flexible learning models. By utilizing hybrid online coursework and deploying mobile training resources directly to local agencies, we bring the classroom to the responder. We are building a system where the only limit to your education is your own ambition.
Take The Next Step
Your growth is our mission. Whether you are seeking funding for your EMT class or advanced leadership training for your officer core, MSCAPM has the resources to help you succeed.
